Also wondering if we do have bad powershift trans what is the cost to rebuild these or if its the tourqe converter what is the cost to rebuild those. We do have a considerable amount of flakey looking stuff in the magnetic screen. Now im wondering of course where that came from and when - could it be left over from yester yr and never got cleaned out of the screen after someone else repaired something or is this likely why all this happened. 3306 engine bad lower end: cat d6c 17r 986 in for parts 2018: cat d6c 17r 986 very good undercariage tracks/rollers/idlers: cat d6c 17r 986. Today I pulled the top off the magnic screen canister and found what looks like parts of a Torrington type bearing (small rollers) and half of a Teflon looking washer about the size of a half dollar - this makes me very uneasy. cat d6 9u 9521 cat hydraulic hardnose: cat d6 9u 9521 cat angle blade blade was sold on arrival: cat d6 9u 9521 in for parts 2017 : cat d6c 17r 986 hood and tinware d6c had 4 fender option: cat d6c 17r 986. Recently my old d6c stopped pulling and wouldn't shift - I posted on here that I pulled off the trans pump, which looks to be in perfect shape but the pipe connecting to trans pump to the magnetic screen seemed to slip off very easily ao I was hoping this was the problem, maybe it was just sucking air at this connection. Just looking for ideas from any of you old time cat operaters - this old dozer has been an excellent machine and I really hate to think we may have a bad trans.
1976 CATERPILLAR D6C TRANSMISSION PUMP FULL
I did however discover that the supply pipe coming from the magnetic screen up to the trans pump was loose and slid off very easily without having to loosen any clamps - what im wondering is could this loose connection have caused all this by sucking air instead of sucking oil up to the trans pump ? My trans oil level is within a 1/4 inch of being full - there is some steel shavings in the magnetic screen but I have no idea how long its been since this screen has been cleaned.

After searching thru my service manual and pulling the top off the transmission (which looks very clean) I had decided it was a faulty trans pump but I took the trans pump off and it looks perfect. Recently it stoped pulling and the shifter feels weird like its not shifting into gear. I have a d6c 10k sn2041 - old machine but has always been a great working dozer.
